Receiving Funding!

The seed of my second album had been planted years before, and there was a moment in August 2010 when I knew it was time to take action. There was a FACTOR deadline coming up and I made the commitment to submit an application for the “sound recording” loan.  FACTOR is the major funding source in Canada that provides financial assistance to Canadian recording artists, labels and music industry organizations.  It’s quite a competitive to receive funding, and independent musicians like myself are competing with major labels and top Canadian artists.

The most challenging part of applying was the requirement to submit every detail of the recording project.  This included a full list of the musicians, the recording and mastering studios, a list of songs and lyrics, graphic designer, budget and a full marketing plan.  I did my best to provide as much information as possible, but a lot of it was speculation.  Even though it was hard work, the application seemed to write itself.  That’s how I knew I was in the right place at the right time.  Applying to FACTOR was a blessing, as it was the catalyst that propelled me forward with the project.

I submitted my application on October 28, 2010 and in March 2011 (my birthday month!) I received the news that my application was successful.  Yipeee!  And oh no!!!  Now I was really accountable to record the album.  That was the moment when the butterflies in my stomach started… and they’re still here two years later!  Until the CD is in my hand, packaged and ready to go I suspect those butterflies will keep on fluttering.
